The Terra Cotta Library
Terra Cotta, Ontario
Floor-to-ceiling library built-ins with integrated rolling ladder, open shelving, and lower cabinet storage — built around the existing timber frame structure.
The room had good bones — a timber frame with a vaulted ceiling that most people would leave alone. The homeowners wanted something that worked with the structure, not around it, so every cabinet was fitted to the beams rather than pushed against the wall. Michaela's Homes & Interiors brought the design direction: Sherwin Williams Clove throughout, open shelving, and a maple rolling ladder to complement the existing wood in the room. The hardware is Rocky Mountain Hardware — silicon bronze Potato knobs that feel right at home in a space that was always going to have some character. It looks like it was always meant to be a library.
Michaela's Homes & Interiors
Michaela's Homes & Interiors led the design from concept through to final installation. The direction was clear from the start — a dark, moody library that worked with the timber frame rather than competing with it. Sherwin Williams Clove throughout, open shelving to keep the room feeling open, and a maple rolling ladder to echo the warmth of the existing wood ceiling and beams. Rocky Mountain Hardware silicon bronze Potato knobs were chosen for every door — a small detail that lands exactly right in a room with this much character.
Fox Custom Woodworks
Fox built every piece in the shop — floor-to-ceiling open shelving, lower cabinet storage, and corner units, all fitted around the existing timber frame structure. The rolling ladder is maple, mounted on a full-length rail that runs the width of the main wall. Built by hand in Erin, Ontario. Installed in Terra Cotta.
